the following organizations

European Research Council

The ERC’s mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven cutting-edge research across all fields, on the basis of scientific excellence.

The ERC complements other funding bodies in Europe such as the national research funding agencies, and is a flagship component of Horizon 2020, the European Union’s Research Framework Programme for 2014 to 2020.

Fund for Scientific Research

The Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique - Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.–FNRS) aims to develop fundamental scientific research within the framework of initiatives presented by researchers. It encourages the production and development of knowledge by supporting individual researchers and by financing research programmes conducted in laboratories and facilities mostly located in the universities of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek

The FWO supports fundamental and strategic scientific research, stimulates international cooperation and promotes equal opportunity. A complete overview of all possible financing resources can be found under « Fellowships and Financing ».

Bijzonder Onderzoeksfonds

The University Research Fund (BOF) is an internal resource made available to universities by the Flemish Government. The universities increase the effectiveness of the University Research Fund by contributing to 12% to the budget themselves.
